This is the chart that I used to assess my fears. I found this very helpful when it came to establishing a sense of motivation. When I was doing this chart I felt as if I was taking part in some sort of rehabilitation. After all you can't work on motivating yourself if you do not know the fears that are holding you back. My biggest fear was not getting into the school that I originally wanted to be in when I got here, Whitman. I found out ways I could be proactive and counter these fears. They involved me setting aside more time to do my work, handing in rough drafts, and studying harder. No that I know what I have to do I can now take action and motivate my self to work to completing these 3 tasks.
I used this strategy for my IST 195 class. I HAVE AN IST TEST ON MONDAY AND I NEED TO GET A B+ TO MAINTAIN MY A IN THE CLASS.
I've used the test prep to prepare for this test, however I still have fears that hold me back from putting my all into the class.
My fears for this class are getting poor lab grades, not understanding the material, and failing tests. As a student trying my best to get into whitman I want to minimize any road blocks that can hinder my chances of succeeding. These charts help me evaluate myself and my fears.
I agree with you that the academic fears strategy helps to evaluate yourself and the fears you have within a course. I really think that it helps to give you a way to succeed within a course. Good luck with your test!
ReplyDeleteGood job setting a large goal for your academic fears such as getting into Whitman- that is a drive that will keep you going throughout the semester! Also good luck on your test, if you follow some of Dr. Blumin's strategies and study you'll do great and loose your academic fears!
ReplyDeleteI believe you can achieve your best outcomes so that you can eventually be admitted into Whitman. In fact, we all do! Keep on using the CLS 105 strategies that work best for you and with dedication you will do great.
